Tuesdays With Dorie Post Number 8: Black and White Banana Loaf

This week's recipe selection "Black and White Banana Loaf" was chosen by Ashlee of A Year in the Kitchen. If you would like the recipe, it will be available at Ashlee's blog.

I was excited about the recipe for this week for two reasons: 1) I have a brand new bread pan purchased a couple of weeks ago and 2) I had some bananas in a rather sad state that found new life in this cake. My oven does not like cakes, having a tendency to brown and burn the sides of the cake and to leave the middle doughy, so I baked this in my little toaster oven.
I haven't used a marbling technique in a very long time, and enjoyed mixing the banana batter with the chocolate and alternating blops of dough in the bread pan. The flavor of the chocolate is wonderful....melting bakers chocolate is truly a wonderful thing!
This cake is rich, delicious and well worth making!

Oh, your Black and White looks very pretty and yummy. A new bread pan! Wow! I was a little leery of showing mine in the pan as believe you me, that pan has seen its share of bread baking and it isn't sparkling new and shiny by a long shot. It bakes good bread, though! I made the photos small so no one would notice. Yours is very pretty, so enjoy that pan!

I cannot believe you made that in a toaster oven! I can't even make a decent pop tart in my toaster oven!

Beautiful as always...

Glad you liked this so much, and great job with using the toaster oven to avert poorly baked goods.

I love your marbling! Its very abstract. I was trying to figure out what mine looked like after each slice. Like when you look at clouds and try to determine what they are.

Great job!

Mmm, your marbling reminds me of a jaguar, lol. Very pretty!

I wonder if your oven runs hot. Do you have one of those cheap-o oven thermometers that you set on the rack and check the temperature with?

Looks delicious! I like big ol' bloops of chocolate batter as opposed to all the swirlies!

OOh-that's pretty. It is nice to know that old bananas won't go to waste. The uglier and blacker the better.

Wow -- baking in a toaster oven. I'll have to try that next time I have something small, to avoid heating up the house with the big oven.
